What Happens To Your Sleep When You Eat The Same Foods Every Day
By BETH BRADFORD
Eating the same meal daily can make managing calorie intake and meal prep easier but limits the nutrients different foods can provide, leading to unhealthy sleep patterns.
Per a 2013 Appetite article, a deficiency in certain nutrients was linked to specific sleep durations. Those sleeping less than 5 hours a night tend to have a limited-variety diet.
A 2016 Advances in Nutrition review said we need nightly deep and rapid eye movement for memory function. The more fat and carbs you eat, the less sleep you'll get in these stages.
Lack of sleep could also make you eat the same foods. You're more likely when tired to grab foods higher in saturated fats and carbohydrates and eat fewer vegetables.
Experts suggest eating a balanced diet, including cherries and other fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and fish, and taking 16-20% of daily calories from protein for better sleep.
