This Is What Those Red Marks On
Your Skin
Really Mean
By AGNES ERICKSON
We all know that our skin is susceptible to changes like aging, acne, and harsh sunburn, but what if we wake up with unidentified red marks on our skin? Are they harmful, or is there nothing to worry about?
A small dot that is reddish in hue is a completely benign phenomenon called a cherry angioma, as per Dr. Jessie Cheung, a board-certified dermatologist and founder of Cheung Aesthetic and Wellness. Dr. Cheung explains that these are “made up of clusters of blood vessels and are harmless.”
Hadley King, MD, a board-certified dermatologist specializing in medical and cosmetic dermatology says, ”There is a genetic factor that makes some people more likely to get them.” Age, hormones, and pregnancy have been known to play a role, and though they are harmless, they can be removed through electrocauterization, laser surgery, or shave excision.
