What Margot Robbie's Skincare Routine Really Looks Like
Actress Margot Robbie always has to make sure she's in tip-top shape for any role she takes on — and that includes taking care of her skin. "Especially with my job, where they just layer makeup on and on and on," she told Vogue UK, and whatever she's doing to get clear skin is clearly working.
As an actress, Robbie is able to learn industry secrets from the best of the best, and this star's skin is something that women have been lusting over for years. In fact, her face was one of the most requested ones as far as non-surgical procedures go, according to a survey done by The Private Clinic. So, how exactly does Robbie always achieve her flawless look?
If you ever wondered what this star is putting on her skin, you're in luck. Read on to find out what Margot Robbie's skincare routine really looks like.
Margot Robbie's cleanser comes before everything else
Margot Robbie's skincare routine begins before she even steps foot in front of her bathroom mirror. "I always start by cleansing in the shower," she told Vogue UK. The very first thing of the day, the actress always has Lancer The Method Cleanse Cleanser sitting right beside her shampoo. Robbie starts off by rubbing the cleanser together in her palms in order for it to become a foam, before applying it to her face and neck.
The company claims that this cleanser will help remove dirt, add hydration, and even regulate the pH balance in skin. These three components come together to make the actress look more youthful and help halt aging altogether — and it's a pretty popular product in the entertainment industry. According to Elle, the stuff is regularly used by Victoria Beckham and Kim Kardashian, too. So, it seems as though the industry secret is to wash, cleanse, repeat.
Margot Robbie uses an eye cream every day to avoid crow's feet
Nowadays, everybody seems to be worried about aging. If you're an actress who's always in the spotlight, the pressure has to be even more extreme. That's why Margot Robbie begins her day by using an eye cream to avoid those dreaded crow's feet altogether.
The actress revealed to Byrdie that, as soon as she gets out of the shower, she applies a pretty expensive concoction under her eyes. Day after day, her go-to eye cream has continued to be La Prairie's Skin Caviar Luxe Eye Lift Cream. One small bottle claims to both moisturize and tighten the skin's appearance around the eyes. It even contains the company's signature fragrance as an added bonus. "Their eye cream is great," Robbie raved to Marie Claire, and it better be, too. A 0.7-ounce bottle of the stuff costs $400.
Facial mists help Margot Robbie repair her dry skin
Dry skin is something that Margot Robbie deals with quite often. Over the years, she's experimented with many different kinds of products to see what's the best at hydrating it. "I'm not a big fan of serums, as my skin can be quite sensitive, and sometimes it reacts to them," she explained to Marie Claire. "But I do love facial mists."
One of Robbie's favorites is the Caudalie Beauty Elixir. "I keep this hydrating spray in my bag at all times," she revealed to InStyle. In addition to being a solution for her dry skin, it helps her makeup stay on all day and claims to even tighten her face over time. For the days when she has to be on set early, it has an added benefit, too. "It has an amazing herbal scent that wakes me up," she said.
If you're hoping to replicate this step of Robbie's routine for a smaller price tag, there is another option. A second facial mist must-have, she told Vogue, is the Aesop Immediate Moisture Facial Hydrosol, which retails for about half the price of Caudalie's.
Face massages are a must for Margot Robbie
Getting a facial is always a special way to spoil yourself. "Margot especially loves a massage to boost circulation and restore vitality," her make-up artist Pati Dubroff even told Glamour. While Margot Robbie told Vogue that she routinely turns to celebrity facialists like Nichola Joss and Dr. Harold Lancer, it turns out that she's also getting some pretty special star treatment every time she steps on set. "Before you contour with makeup, you must contour with your fingers," Dubroff explained. "I spend a good amount of time massaging [her] face." Yes, you read that right. Her make-up artist doubles as her masseuse.
Whenever the actress sits down in her makeup chair, Dubroff begins by massaging Robbie's cheekbones and then moves her way down along her jawline. "We hold so much tension in our jaw, it makes such a difference to work out that buildup and helps to bring out the natural contours of the face," Dubroff said.
Dubroff works her way from the center and moves outward to help fluids flow away from Robbie's face. This also prompts her lymph nodes, located in the upper neck, to drain away any other built-up fluids that are present. It all seems like a pretty complex process for a makeup artist to be responsible for, but there's definitely a reason why Robbie has hired her. She's pulling double duty. "If I wasn't a makeup artist, I would definitely be a massage therapist," Dubroff admitted.
Margot Robbie always puts on a sheet mask before applying any makeup
In addition to a nice face massage, Margot Robbie always has something else she turns to help prep her face for makeup — sheet masks. "One brand I'm obsessed with right now is this brand [111]Skin," she revealed to Vogue, "which my makeup artist, Patti Dubroff, got me hooked on." In fact, her makeup artist always starts every single one of her makeup sessions with a sheet mask. "She'll put one of those on while she's doing my hair," Robbie said.
The actress likes to use the 111Skin Y Theorem Bio Cellulose Sheet Masks for just 10 minutes to even out her complexion and hydrate her dry skin. Her makeup artist's sheet-mask secret, however, has a little more to it than just that. Before applying Robbie's sheet mask, the makeup artist layers a second one underneath — specifically Rodial Dragon's Blood Eye Mask. "Double-masking helps to address all concerns at the same time, but also helps restore calm and confidence to incorporate a few minutes of pampering," Dubroff explained to Glamour, which sounds like something we all need more of in our lives.
Patches help with any puffiness under Margot Robbie's eyes
After Margot Robbie is done wearing a sheet mask, the next step is to focus specifically on her under-eyes — and she has the perfect time to do it, too. "While I'm getting my hair done, I put on Talika under-eye patches," she told Harper's Bazaar. "They help with puffiness," which is especially important if she's having to get up super early to head to set. The Talika Eye Therapy Patches do a lot more than put a stop to puffiness, too. The product claims to reduce dark circles and even tighten the skin over time.
While this is how Robbie always achieves her bright-eyed look, her makeup artist has a second secret to putting a stop puffiness, as well. "I use Rodial Eye Sculpt on every single one of my celebrity clients," Patti Dubroff shared with Glamour. "It's this perfect neutral tone that gives the eye a tiny bit of contour without looking like you've applied anything."
Margot Robbie mixes moisturizer in with her foundation
When it comes time to actually apply makeup, Margot Robbie always makes sure to moisturize. By combining it with her foundation, it makes the entire process a whole lot easier, too. "I'm using this [Ellis Faas] foundation at the moment," the actress told InStyle. "I like mixing it with my face cream for a soft, tinted, moisturizer-like finish." To make sure it covers her entire face, she even uses a toothbrush to ensure it makes it all the way up to her hairline.
Since Robbie can usually be seen using a more lightweight foundation, she makes sure her skin always stays moisturized in order to look healthy and hydrated. Before she goes to bed, Robbie moisturizes her skin a second time in order to let it soak in overnight. In those instances, she told Vogue, she uses a moisturizer by La Prairie. It turns out, keeping your skin as pretty as hers costs a pretty penny, too. A two-ounce bottle of Robbie's favorite moisturizer retails for around $660.
Margot Robbie never forgets to moisture her hands
Keeping the skin on your face hydrated is one thing, but Margot Robbie never forgets to moisturize her hands, as well. For the hands, the actress needs a completely different kind of cream. Her go-to hand cream, she told British Vogue, is Chanel's La Crème Main, and she always carries it in her handbag. As an ambassador for the Chanel brand, it only makes sense — though, the actress is clearly attached to it now.
The cream claims to help add a protective barrier to hands, put an end to dark spots, and even strengthen your fingernails. It also promises to slide on effortlessly without any sticky residue being left behind like other hand lotions. It retails for a little more than your usual lotion for around $50, but this moisturizer clearly isn't like any others.
Products with SPF protection are important to Margot Robbie
As an Australian actress, there's an important aspect to skincare that Margot Robbie thinks everyone in the states is missing out on. "Everything you buy over there [in Australia] is focused on protecting your skin from sun damage, so there is SPF in nearly everything," she explained to Marie Claire. Now, it makes sense why she would only want to purchase skincare products with SPF protection in them.
Sun damage is one of the leading causes of premature aging, and that isn't the only upsetting news about having a sunburn. According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, one in five people in the U.S. will end up developing skin cancer at some point in their lives.
There's only so much that makeup can do to cover up skin damage, so you have to put the health of your skin first. To make yourself look as youthful as this actress, you better add SPF into your skincare routine.
Margot Robbie refuses to use lip balm
Lip balm is the way that almost everybody keeps their lips from cracking, but it's surprisingly a no-go for Margot Robbie. In fact, she has an even better solution for adding hydration. "I use Bepanthen, which is actually a nipple cream for breastfeeding mothers or diaper rash cream for babies," she told Vogue. This isn't an industry secret either. This is something Robbie discovered herself and has been using for as long as she can remember.
Retailing for about $6, this may be the most affordable product in Robbie's skincare routine. Though it may sound extreme at first — considering she's not a mother — the actress isn't far off in her reasoning. Bepanthen is used to add hydration to any dry or cracked areas of the skin. However, that's not the only reason Robbie uses it. "I have a conspiracy theory that lip balms actually have additives in them to dry your lips out, so you keep buying them," she added, so nipple cream is the next best.
Margot Robbie never goes to sleep with makeup on
At the end of each and every day, after Margot Robbie has gotten all of her makeup done, she never forgets to take it off. Ever. "I don't go to sleep with makeup on," she told Byrdie. "As soon as I get home, I scrub it off."
Robbie's favorite makeup remover happens to be Johnson's Face Care Makeup Be Gone Moisturising Wipes. Using a single wipe, the company claims it will remove even waterproof makeup while repairing the skin, too. With a moisturizer added in, the wipes work at keeping the face feeling soft and smooth all day.
Speaking about her home country, "Australian beauty has always been very natural," Robbie told Marie Claire, so taking care of her face is important for when she's not wearing much makeup. Yet, saving your skin may not be the only great thing about these wipes. They're available at any department store for only a few bucks — a bargain compared to the rest of Robbie's skincare routine.
Margot Robbie doesn't wear much makeup when she's not working
While Margot Robbie was starring in "Suicide Squad," it was a lot of work to help her become Harley Quinn. "It required two people to do her makeup each day for two hours on average," head make-up artist Heba Thorisdottir revealed to PopSugar. At the end of the day, the makeup department even had to use a hose to remove it all. Yes, they literally used a hose. Because of all that, it makes sense that the actress doesn't like to wear much makeup when she's not working — and this helps save her skin. However, it wasn't always that way.
When Robbie was just getting started in the industry, she felt the need to wear a lot more makeup. "As I've got older, I've got more confident to wear less," she told Vogue UK. "Now I'll happily just go for dinner wearing tinted moisturiser."
Complexion pads are Margot Robbie's skincare secret while she's traveling
If it wasn't for the paparazzi and fans snapping photos of her at the airport, Margot Robbie wouldn't wear any makeup at all there. "As soon as I'm in my seat, I take my makeup straight off," the actress told Marie Claire. "And then I have a little skin routine."
Because she doesn't have access to a sink to wash her face, Peter Thomas Roth Max Complexion Correction Pads are this actress' go-to while on the go. Not only do they claim to unclog pores, but they also reduce the amount of fine lines and wrinkles on the face. The textured top of the pad acts as an exfoliator to wipe away dirt, while the smooth bottom side is a toner that helps prevent the appearance of an uneven skin tone over time. "You just wipe them all over," Robbie said. "They are so cleansing and your skin feels squeaky clean (in a good way) afterwards." It's a secret we'll be stealing for a fresh face while flying.
Margot Robbie isn't too worried about breakouts
Margot Robbie has a pretty detailed skincare routine. Yet, breakouts are something this star still has experience with. Unfortunately, we don't mean breakout roles – but, luckily, it's still no big deal in the end. "For photoshoots, I don't even worry anymore," Robbie shared with Elle. "Because with photoshop these days if I wake up with a massive pimple, I'm like, 'they're gonna airbrush it out, it doesn't matter.'" However, working on a movie set is a completely different story.
To keep her skin nice and clean for shooting a scene, Robbie has learned that she has to cut dairy out of her diet. "If I eat or drink heaps of dairy, my skin breaks out," she admitted. Unfortunately, it's one of her favorite things to eat. "But I pretend cheese isn't dairy because I will never accept that I can't have it," she added, which has to be some of our favorite skincare advice ever.
