The Fruit You Should Try Eating Before You Exercise
No matter what your choice of daily exercise is, whether it's walking, running, or squatting, working out can be exhausting, especially if you're not in the mood to do it. But that's exactly why you need to ensure you're energized before you start working up a sweat, and there's one particularly healthy fruit snack that can help you out. Bananas!
As Kelly Jones, MS, RD, CSSD, LDN, told Well + Good, "A medium banana is nutrient-rich, providing 24 grams of carbohydrates — 14 of which are sugar and three of which are fiber. The fiber in bananas, along with the gram of protein, keeps the rest of the carbohydrate from being absorbed too rapidly, but there isn't so much that the food will sit in your stomach." Not only that, they're high in carbs and potassium, which will pretty much set you up for success in the gym.
Here's why it so important to eat properly before you work out
According to nutritionist Dr. Anju Sood, "Whatever you eat [before working out], be it a banana or toast, it will act as a stimulator. It will improve your efficiency and mobilize the fat." Speaking to NDTV Food, she went on to explain, "In addition to the umpteen vitamins and minerals, bananas are great digestion boosters too. It helps you initiate your workout." Anything that helps us finish a spin class sounds good enough for us!
Do you hate bananas? Opt for oats or whole grains. "Whole grains are complex carbs that pack a lot of energy," Aja Gyimah, registered dietitian and founder of Kuudose, told Insider. "The carbohydrates are also slower to be released into your bloodstream, so you won't have a blood sugar spike and crash," she continued. According to Gyimah, yogurt with fruit is also a healthy option.
