Where Is Hug Sleep From Shark Tank Season 12 Today?
Those of us longing to sleep soundly through the night while enveloped in a warm hug had our prayers answered in 2020 during Season 12 of ABC's "Shark Tank." In Episode 3, husband and wife Matt Mundt and Angie Kupper took the stage to pitch their wearable Sleep Pod product developed by their company Hug Sleep (via YouTube). Resembling a fabric cocoon, Sleep Pod uses four-way stretch material to compress wearers as they snooze, providing sleepers with a calming, hug-like feeling all night long.
With Matt's background in mechanical engineering and Angie's experience as a mental health therapist, the couple developed Sleep Pod as a deep touch pressure therapy product that not only side-stepped common complaints associated with weighted blankets (too hot and too heavy) but also could be particularly beneficial to those living with anxiety disorders.
Hug Sleep was seeking a $150,000 investment in exchange for a 10% stake in the company. After a bidding war that had all five Sharks competing to invest, Matt and Angie accepted a combined offer from Lori Greiner and Mark Cuban for $300,000 for 20% of the company. More than three years later, Hug Sleep has expanded its product line, continues to be a hit among consumers, and has earned mentions in several major digital publications including Fast Company, Yahoo!, and BuzzFeed (per Hug Sleep).
Hug Sleep has grown in sales and product offerings
In 2022, Mundt told Sleepopolis that they had started on the show with less than 5,000 units of the Sleep Pod product sold. Since the airing of their episode, however, that number has skyrocketed to approximately a quarter of a million units sold.
In addition to growing in sales, the company has also grown its product line. Consumers have the option of purchasing different Sleep Pod models, made with or without a foot opening or a snuggly hood, in three sizes for adults (via Hug Sleep) — all of which have earned an average 4 out of 5-star rating on Amazon. Kids and tween sizes are also available for children in sizes 7 through 14. Hug Sleep also now offers a variety of sleep accessories, including memory foam pillows, pillowcases, velcro-free sleep masks, a wrap blanket, and draw-string bags for easy transport. Alternatively, those looking to wear their Hugstretch Fabric during the day can purchase Hug Sleep hoodies and joggers designed for both men and women.
Currently, the company has accrued more than 37,000 followers on Instagram and offers a discount using the code INSTA10. Hug Sleep continues to post regularly, notifying consumers of sales and cyber giveaways. Just 24 hours before Valentine's Day, the company reminded customers to check out their collection of cozy products with well wishes of "love at first snuggle."
